Charial

Charial is a lovely picnic spot situated near Budge Budge in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The place is located on the bank of the Hooghly river. It is becoming popular especially due to its close proximity to Kolkata. You can visit the Gourango Sevashram located behind the Budge Budge Police Station. One can also enjoy a boat ride in the waters of the Hooghly River.

How to Reach

Local trains are running from Sealdah to Budge Budge. Auto rickshaws are available from Budge Budge station to reach Charial Picnic Spot. By car, it would take about 45 minutes from Taratala to reach Charial. Take right from Taratala Xing and drive straight towards Jinjira Bazar and reach Charial More via Dakghat, Batanagar and Budge Budge. From Charial More, head right and take the Rabindranath Tagore Road to reach Budge Budge Police Station on the bank of Hooghly river.

Palla Road

Palla Road is a great picnic spot situated in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. The picnic spot lies on the bank of the Damodar river. The vast expanse of golden sand beach on one side and lush greenery on the other makes the place an ideal picnic destination. The natural beauty of the place is truly awe inspiring.

You can choose a suitable place to picnic and enjoy.
There is a PWD Irrigation Bungalow for those who want to stay overnight.
The picnic spot is located a little away from the main town and hence it is advised to make all arrangements beforehand.


How to Reach

Palla Road railway station lies on the Howrah-Barddhaman chord line. Local trains are running from Howrah to Palla Road. The picnic spot is located on the bank of the Damodar river and is easily accessible from Palla Road station by rickshaw and cow carriage.

Kolaghat

Kolaghat is a popular picnic destination situated at a distance of 74 km from Kolkata in Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. The place is located on the banks of the Rupnarayan River. Here, one can get a true experience of picnicking under the open sky.

Important Information

There is no need to book picnic spot.
It is advisable to go early in the morning in order to occupy the best place for picnic.


How to Reach

Trains are running from Howrah to Kolaghat. Kolaghat is also easily accessible from Kolkata by road.

Chhatrabhog

Chhatrabhog is a nice picnic destination in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. It is believed that Chaitanya Dev began his journey towards Puri on a boat from this village, This heritage village also houses the famous Maa Tripurasundari Temple.

There is no need to book any picnic spot.
Ample free space is available in and around the village for picnic.


How to Reach

You can board Lakshmikantapur-bound local train from Sealdah and disembark at Mathurapur Road station. Chhatrabhog is 6 km from Mathurapur Road. By car, one can reach Chhatrabhog via Diamond Harbour Road and Hatuganj.

Mankur

Mankur is a lovely picnic spot situated near Bagnan in Howrah district of West Bengal. The excellent location of the place on the bank of the Rupnarayan River makes it ideal for picnic. You can go for boating in the waters of the river. Ferry service is also available from Mankur to Dudhkumra village. You can also enjoy the sweet taste of langchas, a local sweet delicacy.

There is no need to book picnic spot in advance.
Permission is not required for picnic.


How to Reach

Local trains are running from Howrah (South Eastern Railway) to Bagnan. Cars are available from Bagnan Bus Stand to reach Mankur. Car charges Rs. 10 per head. If you hire a full car, then it will cost around Rs. 250. One can also reach Mankur by car from Kolkata via Vidyasagar Setu, Kona Expressway and Bagnan.

Raipur Swadeshi Playground

Raipur Swadeshi Playground is a great picnic spot in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The spot is situated in a pleasant environment on the bank of the Hooghly river. A big festival is held at the playground during the Bengali month of Magh.

All items required for picnic should be carried from home.
You can cook your own food.
There are no spot booking charges.
However, you might have to donate some money for the development of river bank and temple.
There is no need to take permission from anyone to picnic at this spot.


How to Reach

Local trains are running from Sealdah to Diamond Harbour. You can get bus (Rt.-246) from Diamond Harbour station to reach Burul. Autorickshaws are plying from Burul to Raipur. You can also get bus (Rt.-SD26) from Babughat or bus (Rt.-SD30) from Taratala More and disembark at Dongaria stop. From there autorickshaws are available to reach Raipur. Raipur Swadeshi Playground is located nearby.

Achipur

Achipur is an ideal place for picnic situated on the bank of River Hooghly. During Winter, the Itkhola Math and the river bank remains full of tourists. Many people come here to picnic due to its close proximity from Kolkata. You can also take a walk on the banks of Hooghly River or hire a boat and sail in the waters of the river.

All you have to do is choose a suitable place for picnic.

How to Reach

Achipur is easily accessible from Kolkata by road and rail transport. You can catch bus (Route No. 77 or 77C) from Esplande to reach Achipur via Taratala, Budge Budge. Otherwise you can board Budge Budge bound local train from Sealdah South Station and disembark at Budge Budge. Buses and auto rickshaws are plying to Achipur from there.

Deul

Deul is an excellent picnic spot situated in Bardhaman district of West Bengal. Nestled on the banks of Ajoy River, the place is surrounded by the dense Garh forest of Durgapur. You can visit the Shyamarupa Temple. It takes just 10-15 minutes by car. The peace and calm environment of Deul makes it perfect for picnic during the winter season. The historic site where Icchai Ghosh was defeated in a war with Lausen is also located nearby.

How to Reach

To reach Deul from Kolkata by car, first drive to Panagarh. Then take right from Darjeeling More. Deul Park is about 3 km from Egaro Mile More.

Falta

Falta is located on the banks of River Hooghly in South 24 Parganas district. Picnic at Falta is an amazing experience. You can walk by the side of the river or hire a boat and sail in the waters of Hooghly river. Diamond Harbour is half an hour drive from Falta. You can also visit Raichak from here.

You can find a place for picnic at the bank of the river.

How to Reach

Falta is 51 km from Kolkata. You can reach Diamond Harbour from Sealdah by local train. Falta bound buses are available from there to reach Falta. You can also reach Falta by bus from Esplanade Bus Terminus (Kolkata).

Chandraketugarh

Chandraketugarh is an archaeological site located on the banks of Bidyadhari river. Situated at a distance of 50 km from Kolkata, Chandraketugarh is good picnic spot. Many relics and artifacts of the past including Kharoshi script, prayer hall, idols of gods and goddesses, terracotta panel, utensils and other articles of daily use have been excavated from this place.

Important Information

There are no separate picnic spots at Chandraketugarh.
You can bring the necessary things from Kolkata or buy them from Berachampa Market.

How to Reach

Buses are plying from Kolkata to Basirhat. You have to disembark at Berachampa. Chandraketugarh is a little distance towards Haroa from Berachampa.

Randiha

Randiha is a wonderful picnic spot situated on the banks of River Damodar. A dam has been constructed on the river. The serene forests, amazing view of sunrise and sunset and the pure air of Randiha make it ideal for picnic.

You can choose any place for picnic.
Most of the village people are ready to work for you like bringing firewood and water and washing utensils.
One can hire a boat and sail in the waters of Damodar river.

How to Reach

Trains and buses are running from Kolkata to Panagarh. Local buses are available from Panagarh to reach Randiha.

Rajbalhat

Rajbalhat is fast becoming a popular picnic spot. It is situated in Jangipara Block of Hooghly district. In the 16th Century, Rajbalhat was the capital of Bhursut dynasty's empire. The main attraction of Rajbalhat is the Rajballabh Temple which was constructed in the year 1728. The Terracotta work on the walls of the temple is amazing. There are two other Terracotta temples at Rajbalhat - Radhakanta Temple and Sreedhar Damodar Temple. A number of ponds and open grounds are there beside the temples.

Important Information

There is no need for permission to picnic at Rajbalhat.
You can buy the necessary items for picnic from the local market or Haripal market.

How to Reach

Local trains are running from Howrah to Haripal station. You can reach Rajbalhat from there by bus (Rt no 10). Rajbalhat is 22 km from Haripal. Direct buses are also running from Howrah and Esplanade Bus Terminus to Rajbalhat.

Kenduli

Kenduli is a village which is situated on the bank of the Ajay river. Famous Vaishnab poet Jaideva Mishra was born in this place. An annual fair popularly known as Baul fair is organized here on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. It is an ideal picnic spot.

You can choose any spot for cooking and picnic on the river bank.
There is no need of contacting anyone before coming here.

How to Reach

Buses ply between Durgapur station and Shibpur. The frequency of buses is good. Kenduli is located on the opposite bank of Shibpur. There is a bridge on the river Ajay. You can hire a car from Durgapur station to Kenduli.

Bandel Church

Bandel is popular weekend destination for tourists. Bandel Church is famous for its picnic spot. The spot is located just behind the church. Situated at the banks of River Hooghly, the picnic spot offers a wonderful place for tourists to spend their weekend. All this makes Bandel Church flood with tourists during winter.

Important Information

You can buy all materials required for picnic from Bandel Station Market.
After picnic you can enjoy a boat ride in the river and have a look at the Imambara.

How to Reach

You can reach Bandel from Howrah or Sealdah station by train. From there you can get bus or rickshaw to reach Bandel Church Picnic Spot. It takes about an hour to reach there.

Debanandapur

Debanandapur is located in the midst of green in Hooghly district. Situated on the banks of Saraswati river, famous Bengali poet and writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay was born in this village. Debanandapur is now quite popular as a picnic spot. There are numerous gardens, lake sides and open fields suitable for picnic.

Important Information

There is no requirement of written permission, verbal permission from the owner is enough.

How to Reach

Trains are running frequently from Howrah to Bandel. Debanandapur is 5 km from Bandel. Rickshaws are available to take you to Debanandapur.

You can visit Sarat Smriti Mandir. Various items used by the writer Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay are being exhibited here. On the way you can also see Bandel Church.
