Santoshnagar Eco Park

Santoshnagar Eco Park is an offbeat picnic spot near Amta in Howrah district of West Bengal. The park is located at the confluence of Damodar River and Madaria Canal. How to Reach

Buses are available from Esplanade and Howrah to reach Amta. Local trains are also running from Howrah to Amta. Santoshnagar Eco Park is situated very close to Amta.

Sungrace Lagoon

Sungrace Lagoon is an excellent picnic spot near Kolkata in Howrah district of West Bengal. It lies on the Ranihati-Amta Road, 8 km off Mumbai Road. The picnic spot covers an area of 10 acres and is surrounded by lots of trees and greenery. There is ample open space along with various entertainment options for children. Boating facility is also available.

How to Reach

Sungrace Lagoon is situated on the Ranihati-Amta Road, 8 km off Mumbai Road. The best way to reach the picnic spot from Kolkata is by car. After crossing the Kona Expressway, take right turn towards Mumbai Road and reach Ranihati crossing via the toll bridge on Mumbai Road. Then turn right and drive another 8 km to reach Sungrace Lagoon.

Mankur

Mankur is a lovely picnic spot situated near Bagnan in Howrah district of West Bengal. The excellent location of the place on the bank of the Rupnarayan River makes it ideal for picnic. You can go for boating in the waters of the river. Ferry service is also available from Mankur to Dudhkumra village. You can also enjoy the sweet taste of langchas, a local sweet delicacy.

Important Information

There is no need to book picnic spot in advance.
Permission is not required for picnic.


How to Reach

Local trains are running from Howrah (South Eastern Railway) to Bagnan. Cars are available from Bagnan Bus Stand to reach Mankur. Car charges Rs. 10 per head. If you hire a full car, then it will cost around Rs. 250. One can also reach Mankur by car from Kolkata via Vidyasagar Setu, Kona Expressway and Bagnan.

Garchumuk

Garchumuk is an ideal picnic spot located 60 km from Kolkata. The place is situated near the confluence of River Hooghly and River Damodar offering a beautiful view of the river. Hundreds of visitors flock to Garchumuk during winter to view the spectacular barrage called Atanna Gate (58 No. Gate) where 58 lock gates have been built. The Deer Park at Garchumuk is an added attraction. One can also go for a boat ride in River Damodar.

You can buy the necessary arrangements from the Atanna Gate local market.

How to Reach

You can get Gadiara-bound buses from Esplanade and disembark at Atanna Gate bus stop. Local trains are running from Howrah to Uluberia. From there buses and cars are plying to Garchumuk.

Ram Mandir Garden

Ram Mandir Garden is a beautiful picnic spot located 40 km from Kolkata. Situated in Jagatballabhpur of Howrah, the garden is ideal for picnic with family, friends or colleagues. The garden is full of orchids, palms, cashews, mango, oranges, teak and sal trees along with seasonal flower bed. You can climb a 10 ft high, 'Tree Top Mancha' to get a feel of the breeze and enjoy the view. There are two lakes with benches on the side for sitting. A lawn is there for playing purposes. Catering, chair-table, music system are available on hire basis.

Important Information

Only one group is allowed to picnic in one day.
Charges : Rs. 5000/- (50-60 persons), Rs. 5500/- (60-80 persons), Rs. 6000/- (80-100 persons), Rs. 7000/- (100-150 persons)
For Saturday, Sunday and holidays additional Rs. 1500/- will be levied.
Booking rate is 50% of picnic charges.

To reach Ram Mandir Garden from Kolkata by car, take Kona Expressway after crossing Vidyasagar Setu.

Phuleswar

Phuleswar is an ideal picnic spot located in the Howrah district. The picnic spot has come up centering the Phuleswar Bungalow. The bungalow is situated in a peaceful environment on the banks of Hooghly river. It is surrounded by eucalyptus, mahogany trees along with seasonal flower gardens.

Important Information

It is better to book the bungalow in advance.
There are other spots too which are charged by local people.
You can buy the required things from the local market near Phuleswar station.
Utensils are available on hire basis from local decorators.


How to Reach

Fuleswar railway station is located on the Howrah-Kharagpur line. You can reach Fuleswar from Howrah by local train. The bungalow is 7-8 mins distance from the station.

Samtaber

Samtaber is an excellent picnic spot located 4 km from Deulti station on the Howrah-Kharagpur Line. The workplace of the famous Bengali writer and novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay is situated here. The house has been now renovated and turned into a museum. River Rupnarayan is flowing by the side of this place. Samtaber is surrounded by trees, shrubs and flowering plants which make it a wonderful picnic spot during the winter season.

How to Reach

You can reach Deulti station from Howrah by train. Rickshaws are available from Deulti to reach Samtaber. By car you can drive on NH6 and reach Deulti via Dhulagarh and Uluberia.

Mahishrekha

Mahishrekha Picnic Spot is located 4 km from Kulgachia station on the Howrah-Kharagpur Main Line. The place is situated on the banks of river Damodar. It is an ideal spot for picnic in Winter.

All arrangements for picnic has to bought from the market near Kulgachia station.
You can go for a boat ride in River Damodar.

How to Reach

You can reach Kulgachia station from Howrah by train. Auto rickshaws and buses are available from Kulgachia to reach Mahishrekha Picnic Spot.

Gadiara

Gadiara is a small village located 28 km from Garchumuk. Situated at the confluence of the Hooghly, Damodar and Rupnarayan rivers, Gadiara is a fantastic picnic spot. The main attractions of Gadiara are the ruins of the Mornington Point Fort and the lighthouse. The view of sunrise and sunset in the waters of the rivers is amazing. The best time to visit Gadiara is winter.

Important Information

Picnic sheds are available at WBTDC Rupnarayan Tourist Lodge.
Charges - Large Shed Rs. 5000/-, Standard Shed Rs. 3000/-
Rooms are also available for stay at Gadiara. Tariff - Rs. 700-1200/-.

Launches are available to ferry tourists from Gadiara to Geonkhali via Nurpur.

How to Reach

You can reach Uluberia, Phuleswar or Bagnan from Howrah by train. From there buses are plying to Gadiara. You can also reach Gadiara directly from Kolkata by bus or car via Uluberia-Atanna Gate-Shyampur. Otherwise you can board Nurpur-bound bus from Kolkata. Gadiara is a 15 minutes boat ride from there.

Shibpur Botanical Garden

Shibpur Botanical Garden situated in Howrah is one of Asia's largest botanical garden. During winter hundreds of people come here to see the various species of trees and plants. It is also a good picnic spot. Spanning over an area of 273 acres, apart from numerous trees and plants there are a number of water bodies and lakes which makes it more attractive to the visitors.

Important Information

Picnic in the open grounds of the garden is strictly prohibited. There are two pavilions for picnic purposes.
Charges for each pavilion - Rs. 350/-.
You have to bring all arrangements for picnic from outside.
One has to book the picnic spot from the garden office a few days before the date of picnic.
You have to pay parking charges if you go by car.
Entry Fee - Rs. 5/-.

How to Reach

A number of buses of Kolkata and Howrah go to Shibpur Botanical garden. You can also reach there by taxi or private car.

Naupala Picnic Spot

Naupala Picnic Spot is located between the districts of Howrah and Medinipur. Situated on the banks of the Rupnarayan river, Naupala is a wonderful picnic spot. The main attraction of Naupala is the river. Trees and shrubs surround the picnic spots which makes them ideal for picnic during the winter season. You can also go for boating in the river.

Important Information

All arrangements for cooking has to be brought from Kolaghat Station Market or Deulti.
There is a Inspection Bungalow of the PWD.
This bungalow consists of 4 rooms. Tariff - Rs. 500/-

How to Reach

You can reach Deulti from Howrah by train. Auto and Van Rickshaws are available from Deulti station to reach Naupala Picnic Spot. You can also reach Naupala by crossing the Rupnarayan River bridge over River Rupnarayan from Kolaghat station.

How to Reach

You can reach Deulti station from Howrah by local train. The picnic spot is close to the station. If you go by car you have to take NH6 and reach Deulti.

Parichay Entertainment Park

Parichay Entertainment Park is an excellent picnic spot. Though the park is small, the arrangements and facilities available here are quite good. Only one group is allowed to picnic here. There can be a maximum number of 50 persons in a group. A beautiful lake is there inside the park. Paddle boating can be done here. There are slips and swings for children. Parichay Entertainment Park hosts an air conditioned dining hall which can accommodate 30-35 persons. Gents and Ladies toilet facility is available. But there are no playgrounds here.

There is a restaurant in this park.
Catering facility is available on demand.
You can also cook your own food.
Charges - Rs. 2500/-.

How to Reach

Trains are running from Howrah to Andul. Parichay Entertainment Park is just 2-3 minutes from Andul Station. If you go by car, after crossing the Vidyasagar Setu you have to take Andul Road. The park is 3 minutes walking distance from Andul Station Road Bus Stop.

You can visit Santragachi where you will be able to see various species of migratory birds in the lake.
