Aqua Marina Water Theme Park

Aqua Marina Water Theme Park is the latest addition to the list of picnic spots in the district of Hooghly. The park is located 1 km from Hooghly station  A number of water games and sports are there in the park. There is a picnic garden, suite room, conference hall and swimming pool. Apart from boating facilities, there are other things for amusement like roller skating, moon walker etc. Water rides include slide pool, water pool, wave pool, pogo pool etc. The nearby attractions include Hooghly Imambara, Bandel Church and Debanandapur.

How to Reach

The park is situated at a distance of 35 km from Kolkata. You can reach Hooghly station from Howrah by train. From there you can either walk or take a rickshaw ride to reach Aqua Marine Water Theme Park. If you go by car, take GT Road and reach Hooghly.

Bandel Church

Bandel is popular weekend destination for tourists. Bandel Church is famous for its picnic spot. The spot is located just behind the church. Situated at the banks of River Hooghly, the picnic spot offers a wonderful place for tourists to spend their weekend. All this makes Bandel Church flood with tourists during winter.

You can buy all materials required for picnic from Bandel Station Market.
After picnic you can enjoy a boat ride in the river and have a look at the Imambara.

How to Reach

You can reach Bandel from Howrah or Sealdah station by train. From there you can get bus or rickshaw to reach Bandel Church Picnic Spot. It takes about an hour to reach there.

Kamala Picnic Garden

Kamala Picnic Garden is located very close to Kolkata. The garden spans over an area of 8 bighas. A large lake with boating facility is there. Apart from the lake there is a flower garden which hosts a variety of seasonal flowers. There is a separate place for cooking purpose. Toilet facility is available.

How to Reach

From Kolkata, drive through Behala and reach Thakurpukur. From there take the road on your right side (Thakurpukur-Bakrahat Road) and drive for about 8 km to reach Shaltighata Bus Stop. Kamala Picnic Garden is situated near the main road.

Gadiara

Gadiara is a small village located 28 km from Garchumuk. Situated at the confluence of the Hooghly, Damodar and Rupnarayan rivers, Gadiara is a fantastic picnic spot. The main attractions of Gadiara are the ruins of the Mornington Point Fort and the lighthouse. The view of sunrise and sunset in the waters of the rivers is amazing. The best time to visit Gadiara is winter.

Launches are available to ferry tourists from Gadiara to Geonkhali via Nurpur.

How to Reach

You can reach Uluberia, Phuleswar or Bagnan from Howrah by train. From there buses are plying to Gadiara. You can also reach Gadiara directly from Kolkata by bus or car via Uluberia-Atanna Gate-Shyampur. Otherwise you can board Nurpur-bound bus from Kolkata. Gadiara is a 15 minutes boat ride from there.

Machranga Deep

Machranga Deep is a small island situated in the middle of the Ichamati river near Taki in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. It used to be an excellent picnic spot during the winter season. But nowadays, due to excessive mud and lack of proper jetty one can get on this island only during the high tide. Therefore the picnic spot has been closed.

Important Information

You can visit the island by motor boat from Taki.
Motor Boat Charges - Rs. 30/- per head, Rs. 600-800/- for full boat.

Several species of birds like parrot, bulbul and kingfisher are seen here.
Since it is impossible to picnic at Machranga Dwip, you can instead check out the wide range of picnic spots at Taki.

How to Reach

You can reach Taki Road station from Sealdah by Hasnabad Local. From there van rickshaws are available which will take you to Ferry Dock. You can reach Machranga Deep from there by motor boat.

Nahabat Picnic Garden

Nahabat Picnic Garden is situated in Sonarpur at a very close proximity to Kolkata. The picnic garden covers an area of 12 katha. There is a playground, a lush green lawn, swings and various other things for amusement. You can also visit the temple of Baba Panchananda located near the picnic garden.

Only one group is allowed to picnic here in a day.
Maximum number of permissible persons in a group is 100-150.

You can reach Sonarpur from Sealdah by local train. Autorickshaws and cycle rickshaws are available from Sonarpur station to take you to Bosepukur More. Nahabat Picnic Garden is located adjacent to Bosepukur More.

Malia

Malia is situated in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Kashi Vishwanath Mandir is a wonderful picnic spot located on the Baidyabati-Tarakeswar Road. The temple is surrounded by garden. Apart from the Vishwanath Mandir, there are different things for amusement for children.

Important Information

Generally local people charge a small fee for picnic outside the temple.
There are no markets in Malia.
Hence it is better to brings the necessary requirements for picnic from Kolkata.
Although utensils can be hired from here.

You can board Tarakeswar bound local trains from Howrah and disembark at Malia station.

Shibpur Botanical Garden

Shibpur Botanical Garden situated in Howrah is one of Asia's largest botanical garden. During winter hundreds of people come here to see the various species of trees and plants. It is also a good picnic spot. Spanning over an area of 273 acres, apart from numerous trees and plants there are a number of water bodies and lakes which makes it more attractive to the visitors.

Important Information

Picnic in the open grounds of the garden is strictly prohibited. There are two pavilions for picnic purposes.
Charges for each pavilion - Rs. 350/-.
You have to bring all arrangements for picnic from outside.
One has to book the picnic spot from the garden office a few days before the date of picnic.
You have to pay parking charges if you go by car.
Entry Fee - Rs. 5/-.

How to Reach

A number of buses of Kolkata and Howrah go to Shibpur Botanical garden. You can also reach there by taxi or private car.

Shanti Sarovar

Shanti Sarovar is located near Shantipur in the district North 24 Parganas. A picnic spot has come up in the vicinity of this lake. Sonajhuri forest surrounds this lake. It is an ideal spot for picnic during the winter.

Important Information

A cemented place is there for cooking purpose. There is a resting room too.
Book this picnic spot from Mohanpur Panchayet Office.
There are swings, slips and boating facility in the lake for amusement.
You have to buy things required for picnic from Barrackpore or Palta market.

How to Reach

From Sealdah Main Railway Station you can get local train and then disembark at Barrackpore or Palta. From here you can take auto which will take you to Mohanpur Shanti Sarovar Picnic Spot.

Mudiali Nature Park

Mudiali Nature Park is an ideal picnic spot situated close to Kolkata. The park has been developed by Mudiali Fishermen Co-Operative Society. Apart from boating facility, there are swings, slip and other fun attractions for children. The nature park boasts of a mini zoo which hosts many deers and peacocks.

Mudiali Nature Park remains open from 8 am to 4 pm.

You can reach Brace Bridge station from Sealdah by local train. Mudiali Nature Park is located close to the station. Autorickshaws ply on this route. You can also reach Mudiali Nature Park from Taratala More by bus.

Abakash Picnic Spot

Abakash Picnic Garden is located in a calm and peaceful environment in South Garia village. The village is situated in South 24 Parganas district  Abakash Picnic Spot spans over an area of more than 4 bighas. The picnic garden hosts ample trees along with a lake which makes it ideal for picnic. The whole place is surrounded by fencing walls. You can play badminton inside the garden.

Each day one group is allowed to picnic here.
Around 150 people can picnic in this garden.

Cooking facilities are there along with a shed. Catering may be available on request.

How to Reach

You can reach Kalikapur or Champahati station from Sealdah by Canning Local. The picnic spot is around 1-2 km away. Rickshaws are available from there to reach the picnic garden. Alternatively, you can board Baruipur Local or Lakshmikantapur Local and disembark at Subhasgram. Abakash Picnic Garden is 6 km from Subhasgram station. If you prefer to go by car you have to drive on EM Bypass, cross Garia-Narendrapur-Subhasgram and then reach South Garia. The village is 35 km from Kolkata.

Naupala Picnic Spot

Naupala Picnic Spot is located between the districts of Howrah and Medinipur. Situated on the banks of the Rupnarayan river, Naupala is a wonderful picnic spot. The main attraction of Naupala is the river. Trees and shrubs surround the picnic spots which makes them ideal for picnic during the winter season. You can also go for boating in the river.

How to Reach

You can reach Mecheda station from Howrah by local train. Regal Guest House is 2 km from the station. If you go by car, take NH6, cross Sarat Setu and turn left. Then cross Mecheda Flyover and you will find yourself in front of a statue of Vidyasagar. Turn left from here and drive a little to reach Regal Guest House.

Jubilee Park and Resort

Jubilee Park and Resort is an attractive picnic spot near Kalyani. The park has been developed jointly by Gayeshpur Municipality and a private organization. The place is surrounded by trees and is situated in a beautiful natural environment. There are various things for amusement like jumping frog, hanging boat, dragon train, baby taxi, baby car and mickey mouse. There is boating facility too.

Unipark is an excellent picnic spot which consists of 3 acres of land and a big farm house. The farmhouse is situated in Bhasa near Kolkata. There are security guards at Unipark. Inside the garden there are ponds, fruit orchards and children's playground. Utensils and cooks can be hired here. Drinking water and toilet facilities are available at Unipark Picnic Spot.

How to Reach

You can reach Unipark Picnic Spot by car. First take Diamond Harbour Road and after crossing Thakurpukur - IIM Joka drive for another 3 km. This will take you to Bhasa. The picnic spot is located on the left side of the road.

Sabuj Deep

Sabuj Deep is a magnificent picnic spot run by Hooghly Zilla Parishad and WBSFDC. The place is situated at a distance of 75 km from Kolkata. It is an islet located near Balagarh at the confluence of Behula and Hooghly rivers. Spanning over an area of 180 bigha, Sabuj Deep Picnic Spot is dotted with pine, palm, eucalyptus, teak, Mahogony and other trees. The picnic spot hosts a children's park, flower garden, restaurant and a view tower. You can also go for a boat ride in the river.

Important Information

Sabuj Deep remains open from 8 am to 6 pm.
Boat fare : Rs. 50/- per head.
Toilet and drinking water facilities is available here. There is a park too.
A few restaurants, tea and soft drinks stalls are set up during the peak season.
All arrangements for picnic has to be brought from Balagarh market.
There is no need to book the picnic spot in advance.

You have to board Katwa local from Howrah or Sealdah station and disembark at Somrabazar station. From there van rickshaws are plying to Sukharia Ferry Ghat. Motor boats are available from there to reach Sabuj Deep.
